HARDWARE QUESTIONS

Q: On which Mac model can I install the P5200 logic board?

A: We added an adapter board onto the P5200 and made it compatible with:
Performa/LC 520, 550, 575, 577, 578, Mac TV, and Color Classic. However the current chassis extension does not fit the Color Classic.

Q: What is the maximum amount of RAM I can have with the P5200 ?

A: The maximum amount of RAM is 64 MB, that is 2 x 32 MB SIMMs. The 5200 logic board has no RAM soldered on board.

Q: I have 36 MB installed on my P5200 logic board but the System takes over 30 MB of it and there is only about 8 MB free. What is wrong?

A: Verify whether you have 32-bit addressing turned ON in the Memory Control Panel. It is probably turned off since the new P5200 logic board has the default settings in PRAM. You will also probably need to reset the Date & Time, Printer, Mouse speed, etc.

.Q: Can I use the same peripherals I have attached to my computer?

A: Yes. However if you do sound recording the microphone has to be a PlainTalk microphone.

Q: Are there other upgrades available for my MicroMac PPC P5200 Logic Board Upgrade?

A: Yes.

To receive additional information on these upgrades, please contact MicroMac at 800-600-6227 or 949-362-1000 or visit our Web site at www.micromac.com.

Q: Can I still use the PDS card I have currently installed?

A: Yes. The Performa 5200 uses the same LC-PDS connector as the lower models.

Q: Where can I find more technical information?

A: Use our on-line Mac Specs data base.

Q: Apple had a recall on some of the 52xx/62xx models, are these boards effected?

A: No, we test all our 52xx/62xx logic boards with the software tester Apple has released and is available on there site (http://www.apple.com).

Q: Does the upgrade use the existing internal hard drive and CD-ROM drive?

A: Yes it does.

Q: Does the upgrade provide SVGA video on the internal P575 screen?

A: You now have the P5200 logic board. The very same is used in the P6200 which supports SVGA. However your internal screen doesn't support it.

Q: Does the upgrade come with an FPU?

A: Yes, all PPC have the FPU buit in.

Q: I got a MacTV, does the upgrade have TV capabilities?

A: Yes, the 5200 logic board has a "Video-In" slot, in which you can install a TV-card or the Video-in card.

Q: What other expansion options do I get with this upgrade?

A: The 5200 has a LC-type PDS-slot, a comunication-slot and a video-in slot. On the adapter card we added we included the IDE and power connectors, which allows you to make use of the IDE interface.

SOFTWARE QUESTIONS

Q: Can I just replace my current LC or Performa logic board with the P5200 logic board or do I need a certain minimum System software?

A: The Performa 5200 needs at least System 7.5.3. We recommend you install this System prior installing the upgrade DO NOT USE "easy install", instead use "customize" for any Mac.

Q: Since I installed the new P5200 logic board I cannot print. What's wrong?

A: The new logic board does not have the printer information made available to it in its PRAM. To have the logic board identify your printer, select your printer in the Chooser again (the Chooser is located under the Apple Menu). You will probably need to also reset the Date & Time, Mouse speed and Memory Addressing settings from their respective Control Panels (located inside the Control Panels Folder inside the System Folder).

Q: Every time I boot up I get the error "reset Time and Date", where do I reset Time and Date?

A: The new logic board does not have any information it in its PRAM. Time and Date is one of these information. For Time and Date use either the Alarm Clock DA, the "General Controls" or the "Date & Time" Control Panel.

Q: I'm convinced, yes I want to get this upgrade, what do I have to do?

A: To place the order, use this form (there is also a phone number on this form to call).
At the time you place the order you will be given a RMA number for you logic board, which you send back to us after the new logic board is completely working. This RMA number also appears on your invoice. There is also a deposit on the invoice for you old logic board, which we'll refund you upon receipt of your logic board.
