Upgrade to 68040 Performance
|

Optimize Your Performance:
You receive all the benefits,
features and advanced power of 68040 software with the MicroMac 68040
LC475 Logic Board Upgrade. With the 66/33MHz upgrade model you'll get
a performance gain of up to 450%. Imagine faster access to the
Internet, Web sites and your applications. Enjoy quick screen redraws
in Photoshop and other graphic-intensive applications. Scroll through
your word processing documents in mere seconds instead of minutes.
The 68040 processor delivers the power needed to run today's
demanding software that will not work with 68020 or 68030-based Macs
- even those equipped with an accelerator card.
RAM! RAM!! RAM!!! And More RAM:
No longer are you limited to
the 10MB limitation set by the LC and LCII. Give your applications
room to breath by adding up to 36MB of RAM onto the logic board*. You
even have the advantage of using Virtual Memory or RAM Doubler and
TRIPLING your RAM capacity up to 108MB! (Ram Doubler 2
required.)
That's more than enough memory to run
all your favorite applications, Internet software and utilities as
well as the latest Mac OS 8 in a comfortable computing
environment.
*Note: 72-pin SIMM
required. LC and Performa models, excluding the LCIII and Performa
450 and 460, utilize 30-pin SIMMs. If you wish to use your 30-pin
SIMMs you will need to purchase the $19.00 MicroMac SIMMchanger
Memory Upgrade product.
No More Grainy Dithered Color
Images: The MicroMac 68040
LC475 Logic Board Trade-up provides you with the ability to run
16-bit color (thousands of colors) on monitors up to 17" or 8-bit
(256 colors) on monitors up to 21". Now you can view rich, pure
photographic color images on a large 17" monitor in such applications
as Photoshop and Web browsers displaying JPEG images. With 16-bit
color you can do accurate color correction on photographs, scans and
images that is impossible to do with limited 8-bit color or on small
cramped monitor displays.
The video output of the LC475 requires that you populate the LC475
logic board with two VRAM SIMMs. You can accomplish this by removing
the one VRAM SIMM installed on your LC or Performa computer and
installing it into one of the two VRAM sockets of the LC475. You will
then need to add an additional VRAM SIMM of the same size to the
second VRAM socket. For example, if you have a 512KB VRAM SIMM
installed on your LC or Performa computer, you must get a second
512KB VRAM SIMM in order to get correct video output from the
LC475.
You can identify the VRAM output of your current LC or Performa
computer by the following procedure:
The chart below identifies the video output support of the LC475 and the required VRAM SIMMs needed to drive the number of colors on various monitor displays:

High Fidelity Stereo Output:
Enjoy stereo FM-quality output
from your Mac instead of muffled mono AM-quality sound. The MicroMac
68040 LC475 Logic Board Trade-up incorporates an audio-out port that
drives stereo sound on external speakers, amplifiers and headphones.
It's perfect for delivering exceptional music and sound effects from
the latest multimedia games that require 68040 or better Macs. Your
current LC or Performa computer provides only mono sound output,
which is far from delivering the rich and dynamic range of music and
sound that stereo delivers.
Room for Expansion:
The MicroMac 68040 LC475 Logic
Board Upgrade provides a 114-pin LC style PDS slot that supports the
addition of an Ethernet, video capture, Apple IIe emulation or other
third party PDS card as well as any 96-pin LC-style PDS card. The PDS
slot provides you with the option to build a Mac system that is best
suited for your computing requirements.
You even have the ability to enhance your
MicroMac 68040 LC475 upgraded LC or Performa computer with the
MicroMac LC/LCII
Power WorkStation. The workstation
is a chassis extension that upgrades the case of your computer with
the ability to incorporate an internal 5.25" drive (such as a CD-ROM,
Jaz or SyQuest drive), an internal 3.5" drive (such as a Zip or
Optical drive) and two additional hard drives.
System and Tool Requirements:
LC, LCII, LCIII, LCIII+,
Performa 400, 405, 410, 430, 450 or 460 with appropriately installed
System 7.1 or later software and optional anti-static grounding strap
(available at most computer hardware stores).
Upgrade Installation:
Prior to installing the MicroMac 68040
LC475 Logic Board Upgrade you will need to update or reinstall the
System 7.1 or Mac OS 7.5 - 8.0 software so that it is compatible with
the LC475. This is a simple procedure that is outlined in the
documentation that comes with the LC475 upgrade. Once you have the
correct System software installed, the installation involves removing
the current 68020 or 68030 logic board from your computer (which
easily unsnaps from the inner case) and installing the LC475 logic
board. If you own the original Mac LC computer, you will need to also
purchase and install the MicroMac Fan &Speaker Upgrade Kit. (The
original Mac LC fan and speaker do not fit with the upgraded LC475
logic board.)
